There’s An App For That
So many people have iPhones and iTouches and Blackberries these days. If you’re one of them, take time to find some of the many apps made to aid people in their weight loss efforts. You can log your food intake (and for regular readers, you know what a proponent of food diaries I am!), track your calories burned through activity, even see what you’ll look like when you get to your goal weight!
LoseIt: This app lets you record what you eat, how many calories you consume during the day, and how many calories you burn with your exercise and activities. Just like the programs that let you log your intake on the computer, LoseIt lets you do the same in the palm of your hand. Carrying your food log with you has its advantages: When you wait until the end of the day to complete your record you’re more likely to forget that snack you picked up on the road or the danish you grabbed at the end of the meeting.
Weight Mirror: This app lets you upload a picture of yourself now and shows you what you’ll look like after you lose the weight. You can do it on your home computer as well. Simply load a full-length picture pose that includes your whole body, enter your height and weight, and then use the handy sliding ruler to indicate how much weight you would like to lose. It’s a simplified program and actually just shrinks the entire body equally–which is not how most of us lose weight. Still, you can get a good idea of what a smaller version of you will look like and it can be quite motivating.
Walking Apps: Apps such as 321 run, Itreadmill, and Ultimate pedometer with pocket step let you keep track of your activity during the day. 321run comes in three versions, two of which track your distance using the GPS in your iphone. Your coach tells you how far you’ve run and how far you have left in the program you enter. Track your distance, speed, and duration and even tweet your friends when you’ve completed your run. Itreadmill is like having a treadmill in your pocket! It tracks your pace, distance, time, and calories burned. You can use it throughout the day or to track a walk or run. With new technology you don’t have to clip your iphone on your belt like a regular pedometer; it works in your hand, your pocket or your purse.
My pedometer easy exercise tracker is a simple format and costs just $1.99. Another way to pop your iphone in your pocket and count your steps with no muss or fuss. You can review your daily as well as monthly exercise in the history screens, your distance, average speed, time spent walking or running and calories burned.
Take advantage of this modern technology to make eating smart and exercising daily more fun than work!
