Quick Weight Loss - Why We Love to Hate It

Who doesn’t enjoy the idea of quick and easy weight loss? I mean C’mon, it’s human nature to want things quick, fast, and in a hurry. So it’s no surprise that everyday, thousands of people rely on their computer to find diet supplements (a.k.a magic beans) that will drop just enough pounds for that special day. If you stumbled upon this post looking for that bean, I’m very sorry but we don’t have it.

What we do have it a little rant on our top 3 reasons we love to hate quick weight loss.

  1. Gallstones - If you haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing the wonderful feeling of a gallstone in the pit of your stomach don’t worry. Your not missing much. About 12% to 25% of people experience Gallstones as a result of rapid weight loss. Treating gallstones is pretty straight forward. Most doctors will either prescribe you something for the pain and send you home or if the pain is too sever, they will schedule you to have your gallbladder removed.
  2. Irritability - Low caloric diets are known to cause one to be a bit irritable. Seriously, if you had headaches, constipation, and fatigue you would probably be a little mad at the World too. All joking aside, experiencing these symptoms could be your body’s way of telling you to pay attention. Eating extremely low carbohydrates, or low protein are some of the top culprits. Low carb diets deplete the healthy glucose stores in your muscle and liver which causes you to fatigue easy.
  3. Welcome Back Weight - Did you enjoy your time away? Without question one of the most dreaded effects of quick weight loss programs is the fact that 9 out of 10 will gain all the weight back. Why does this happen? Great question… It happens because when you start any diet program your body goes into a state of shock and will rapidly begin to shed pounds.  Since we are talking about quick weight loss schemes, chances are the program you’re trying probably has you starving yourself (which can cause loss of water weight and muscle tissue). It’s very easy to confuse losing water weight and muscle with actually losing body fat.  The point is, once you start consuming normal calories again, the body will have a higher tendency to store all the calories eaten thus putting the weight back on.  This is mainly because your body was designed to survive, not lose weight.

Quick Weight Loss Tips

  • Always make sure to compliment your diet efforts by exercising. Building more muscle is a great way to increase your metabolism and burn more calories throughout the day.
  • Replace regular soda with diet soda (or even better, with a low calorie drink like crystal lite mixed with water).
  • Eat smaller, well portioned meals throughout the day (every 3 to 4 hours).

I think you have to plan. If you don’t plan then you won’t be able to lose as much because you will always get caught unprepared.
