Do You Have Control Over Your Weight?

weightcontrol2Do you believe your weight is in your control, or that outside factors are responsible for the shape you’re in today?  Take this quiz I adapted from the book Think Thin, by Doris Helmering and Dianne Hales, to find out more:

Answer True or False to each of the following questions:

_____  1.  Obesity just runs in my family
_____  2.  I would lose weight if I planned my meals ahead of time
_____  3.  I can exercise every day if I give up an hour of tv watching
_____  4.  I must have a slow metabolism
_____  5.  Some people can eat all they want and never gain weight
_____  6.  I could lose weight if I started choosing to eat lower calorie foods
_____  7.  I wouldn’t eat junk food if it wasn’t in the house for the kids
_____  8.  I don’t understand why I’m overweight; I don’t really eat that much
_____  9.  If I set my mind to eat less and exercising more, I’ll lose weight
_____  10.  I couldn’t do enough exercise to really make any difference in my weight

Check your answers:  If you answered true to numbers 2, 3, 6, and 9—you are in control and see a way to change your lifestyle to result in weight loss.

If you answered true to numbers 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 10—you credit or blame outside forces for your weight.  You will find it more difficult to make changes that will lead to permanent weight loss.

The first step is to acknowledge that you DO have control over your diet and exercise habits!  If you eat fewer calories and get more exercise you will find yourself losing weight, whether or not being overweight runs in the family.

Deciding you have control over what you weigh is the first step to starting your successful weight loss plan for 2009!
