The Latest Silly Fad Diet: “The Baby Food Diet”
A friend of mine sent me a post the other day of a blogger regaling us of her day on “The Baby Food Diet”. Apparently there aren’t really any guidelines for following this outrageous plan yet regarding how much to eat of which foods. The blogger chose to eat all fruit flavors! The purpose seems to be eating controlled portions of food, with the added benefit of no preservatives and very little salt or other additives that are not considered healthy. Most jars of baby food have fewer than 100 calories, so you could eat about 14 jars a day (depending on your selections) for under 1200 calories. Anyone can lose weight on this calorie level!
Technically, you could get quite a bit of nutrition from the baby foods: concentrated sources of veggies, pure pureed fruits, carbs from the pasta ‘meals’ and protein from the lean meats. You would have to add your own milk (as is true for the diets of actual babies) to round out the balance and provide calcium, riboflavin and vitamin D.
The drawbacks? In time (and ‘time’ was less than a day for the aforementioned blogger) you begin craving something to chew. Baby food isn’t really meant for adults. It’s not going to satisfy hunger, fill you up, or provide your daily needs for most nutrients. Any diet you try is only going to work for as long as you’re on it… how long do you think you can live on baby food? This certainly rules out any adult parties (or dining with others, eating in restaurants, etc).
My question if you are considering this diet: If you have that much discipline, why don’t you try having three healthy meals, two healthy snacks, and avoiding candy bars and ice cream?
Instead of looking for the next fad diet, try choosing healthier foods and start developing good habits. Choose a new habit or two each week… have fruit for snacks instead of “treats”, drink a few extra glasses of water each day, go for a 20 minute walk. In time you’ll incorporate these into your day as part of your healthy diet. Then you won’t have the need to look for a silly fad diet to get the weight off. You’ll just be a healthy weight with sound eating and exercise routines as part of your lifestyle!

Hahaha! I like the way you put it Laurie!
Indeed, if one has that much discipline, why don’t they try having three healthy meals, two healthy snacks, and avoiding candy bars and ice cream?
This would be easier than the baby food diet!
