Jillian Michaels Sued – Is it Fair or Greedy People Trying to Make a Quick Buck?

Jillian Michaels is the famous trainer on the hit show “The Biggest Loser.” She is known for her tough, no-nonsense attitude and difficult, but effective, exercise programs. Michaels often stresses the importance of healthy diet and exercise as the best way to lose weight. She also endorses several weight loss products that are available at major retailers.

Michaels is being sued over a product called “Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Calorie Control.” The packaging of these diet pills states, “Two Capsules Before Main Meals and You Lose Weight … That’s It!” However, a woman named Christie Christensen of Lake Elsinore, Calif., begs to differ.  She purchased these pills, but claims she didn’t lose any weight or have a decreased appetite after taking the diet pills for one month.

Christensen claimed to have trouble with her weight for her entire life. She believes that false advertising led her to purchase the diet pills that did not work for herself. Christensen has filed a class-action lawsuit against Jillian Michaels for false advertisement of the Calorie Control product. The lawsuit is for unspecified damages, not expected to be more than $5 million. Christensen has also filed a lawsuit against Utah-based Basic Research, the manufacturer and advertiser of several weight loss products endorsed by Jillian Michaels.

Jillian Michaels’ name and image appear on the packaging of the Calorie Control diet pills, but the lawsuit states that “Ms. Michaels knows better — taking two pills before eating does not miraculously cause weight loss.” The package does state that their claims have not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Neither Basic Research nor Heidi Krupp, Jillian Michaels publicist, has issued any statements at this time.

In my opinion, it’s a little sad to see this kind of stuff play out in the media.  On one hand, I don’t understand how someone can be naive enough to believe that you can simply take a pill and lose weight without any diet modification or exercise.  But Jillian and her team had to know that some people won’t exercise personal responsibility and that could put her in harms way.

What do you think of this lawsuit? Is it greed on Christie’s part? Or is Jillian at fault?

I’ve always admired Jillian’s body and how she works so hard to maintain it. I wish to had arms like hers…but I think the lawsuit is silly. You’re going to sue because your fat and thought by taking a pill would make you skinny?

With all do respect. I do believe that the packaging had misleading information on it. But even still, people trust Jillian and she should have considered this before putting her name on the product.

I personally do not like to have arms like her. It looks like that of a man.

I believe that every person has a unique body system…These pills might be effective for some, yet it might not work for others. One has to understand their body…and it takes a while to do this and arrive at an intelligent conclusion. I wouldn’t try these pills.

I just viewed the label on these pills. I cannot imagine the customer can win this lawsuit because of claims on the lablel such as, “Individual results may vary,” “Use in conjunction with a sensible diet and exercise program,” and the icing on the cake… “No diet program works for everyone … if you’re not satisfied return to your place of purchase for 100% money-back guarantee”…. So, yes I believe the lawsuit is frivilous and I hope it gets tossed out of court!

I have to agree with Laurie. Taking extra time to read the labels would solve a lot of problem experienced by most dissatisfied customers.
