34 Must Read Weight Loss Sites and Blogs
Over the years I’ve stumbled across several websites and blogs that serve as great sources of information and motivation. After a year of reading most of these websites I decided to compile a list of 34 must read websites and blogs. They are in no specific order but I’m 100% sure that at least one of the sites listed will serve its purpose of keeping you motivated and loaded with great information.
News, Tips, and Informational Websites
1. Diet-Blog.com – The Diet Blog was established in 2003 and is considered an authority in weight loss news and information. Jim Foster (Senior Editor) has done an excellent job of maintaining the sites reputation as a trusted source for news and healthy tips.

2. Calorie Lab – Calorie lab has been online for over 9 years and contains one of the largest online nutritional databases. You can type in literally any food item and get the nutritional data. Not to mention they are also a trusted source for nutrition related news and studies.

3. DietsInReview.com – With over 2 years of content, Senior Editor Brandi Koskie has taken what started out to be a diet review website and turned it into a large online community for dieters. Using the winners from NBC’s hit TV show The Biggest Loser as correspondents is a wonderful addition to their site. They also offer news, free recipes, and diet widgets.

4. Three Fat Chicks – Over the past 10 years Suzanne, Amy, and Jennifer (sisters by the way) took their weight loss forum to remarkable heights. 3 Fat Chicks has a large member community and is a great support system for people on a diet. They also have recipes, weight loss tools, and you can even start your own blog to track your weight loss journey.

5. Fat Man Unleashed – Israel is a funny dude. I’ve been following Israel’s weight loss blog for some time. He does a great job of discussing his diet journey, results, and tribulations along the way. But what I most enjoy are his videos. They are very entertaining and definitely worth checking out. We wish him the best on his journey back down to 225.

6. Cranky Fitness – Created by the infamous Crabby McSlaker and Merry Sunshin, CrankyFitness.com is a politically incorrect and fun weight loss blog and let me tell you, these two give it to you straight. With a variety of topics covered, CrankyFitness.com is a “must bookmark” site to enjoy while on a diet.

7. The Great Fitness Experiment – The concept of Charlotte’s website is unique but the topics she posts about goes beyond body image and weight loss. Charlotte is able to communicate with people on such a personal level that her honesty strikes an internal chord that reminds us just how human we really are. Make sure to visit when you have some time as reading one post will quickly turn into 5 before you know it. We highly recommend The Great Fitness Experiment.

8. The Office Diet – Ali Hale is a wonderful writer. And we’re not just saying that because she is one of our staff writers. Ali’s ‘Office Diet’ is full of relevant and useful information for dieters with a busy lifestyle.

9. Diet Girl – The Amazing Adventures of Diet Girl. Shuana Reid shared her journey of how she lost kilos and got her mind and body back on track. Now that she is in “maintenance mode” Shauna continues to provide golden nuggets of wisdom to those trying to follow in her footsteps. Her book is available at most major book outlets including Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

10. Calorie King – Calorie King is a weight management program. They offer a free extensive food database for calorie counting with over 50,000 foods including fast food chains.

11. Pasta Queen – Jennette has an edgy writing style that I absolutely love. She also has an amazing weight loss story that is documented on her blog and her book “half-assed” which is available for purchase. Jennette is a true inspiration and we highly recommend her blog.

12. MizFit – Carla is one tough cookie. Her trademark “unapologetically myself” fits perfectly with her no nonsense approach. Her website is full of amazing info and the videos are definitely enjoyable and worth a look. Did I mention how ripped Carla is? You should check her site out right now!…do it!…don’t piss her off

13. Mark’s Daily Apple – Mark is the one the most shredded guys I’ve seen for his age. He has an amazing way with words and it shows as his blog is very informative and extremely easy to read. Mark’s site gets a lot of participation so go ahead and join the discussions. Visit Mark’s Daily Apple today. P.S. 14. Health Day – Health Day provides health related news including FDA approvals, news for medical professionals, and other health highlights.

15. Fit Celeb – Ran by fitness bad @$$ Dana Walsh, FitCeleb.com gives you all the celebrity fitness scoops. Forget the magazines at the supermarket. If you’re into celebrity fitness save your money, Dana has you covered. Check it out!

16. Dietriffic – Mealanie Thomassian is a registered dietitian living in Australia. Her blog has useful and practical tips to help you lose weight. If anything, you should visit her site and check out her free e-book “The Lifestyle Makeover Guide”.

17. This Mama Cooks - This is a blog ran by Ann-Marie Nichols and she reviews different food products and provides recipes, tips, and more. This is a must read for all the hands on mama’s that like to cook.

18. Back in Skinny Jeans – This inspirational blog by Stephanie Quilao has great posts that reflect on her emotional and physiological experiences during weight loss. This blog falls under the motivational category. Although the blog is no longer active, it still has years of great content.

19. Fit Sugar – Part of the “Sugar” network, Fit Sugar is a mainstream way to get tips for your exercise and diet routines with great articles and resources such as “how to avoid post wedding weight”.

20. Roni’s Weigh – Roni has been dealing with “weight issue” since her time as a teenager, throughout college, and after having a baby. Her blog serves as her online journal. Be sure to check out her progression pictures… pretty awesome transformation.

21. FitnessFixation – Kelly has one fun blog. I can’t remember reading anything that’s been published that I didn’t enjoy. The posts are very well written and some are just flat out hilarious. You should definitely check this one out when you’re not eating or drinking to prevent choking.

22. John is Fit – John makes it very clear that he is the opposite of fit. His honesty is refreshing and the documentation of his struggles are very real. A lot of people can relate to John’s posts and this blog is highly recommended.

23. That’s Fit – Part of AOL’s Health network, That’s Fit is another mainstream way to get information on diet, motivation, celebrity scoops, and more. Check out their Twitter Fit Tips and success stories.

24. JivaFit – Julie is the founder and editor of JivaFita and she literally has all the bases covered with her highly regarded health blog including recommended exercises, eating for healthier skin, good recipes, and more. Although new posts aren’t updated as often as I would like, there is plenty of information to go through dated back to March of 2008.

25. Fit to The Finish – Diane is yet another person with a great story. Losing an amazing 150 pounds gives her more than bragging rights, it gives her the ability to provide insight into an amazing transformation. Diane shares the foods she eats, and other bits of great information. We highly recommend her site.

26. Refuse to Regain – Dr.Berkeley and Lynn have a great site for maintaining weight loss so if you reached your ideal weight, this site is perfect for you. Dr. Berkeley’s book Refuse to Regain is also a good read and can be purchased via Amazon.

27. Mr. Low Body Fat – I first learned about Muata’s blog from watching a report on CNN’s Fit Nation. He knows about weight loss and this is a perfect blog for men. The videos are great and there are plenty of resources available to help overweight red meat eating guys get back into shape. Muata is very motivating.

28. Every Gym’s Nightmare – Created by an ACE certified trainer, Kelly provides a platform for people to ask their fitness questions. She gives very thoughtful answers and her site is very entertaining to read. Her posts on body image are brilliant!

29. Workout Mommy – Workout Mommy is a website dedicated to helping mothers find balance between fitness and fun with the kids. Lisa knows first hand how being strapped for time means ditching a fitness routine. Check out her fitness category for all kind of tips for busy moms.

30. Balanced Diet- Balanced Life – Laurie Beebe is not just our nutritional expert here at You-On-A-Diet, she also is an excellent diet and life coach. Check our her blog Balanced Diet, Balanced Life.

31. Summer Tomato – First of all we would like to point out that the owner of this site, Darya, is a scientist which we think is awesome. Aside from having a unique design, Summer Tomato has so much great content it will make your head spin. We weren’t surprised that the science section of the site had very interesting posts and studies. Summer Tomato also offers recipes and tips which includes her ‘How to eat in restaurants’ series which we found thought provoking. Great stuff!

32. Yum Yucky – Although this site is fairly new, it has already built quite a readership. Josie’s blog explores the human love affair with food. With her taste test directory and cheat sheets, Yum Yucky might be the tasty site you need to satisfy your information cravings.

33. Fat Fighter TV – Sahar really puts the obesity epidemic in America into perspective. The journalistic style of her site, accompanied with the nuggets of health wisdom makes Fat Fighter TV a must bookmark site. The videos are also fantastic. If you show some significant weight loss progress you might even be eligible for a Weight Loss WhooHoo

34. Snack Snoop – Snack snoop is a great site to learn about healthy snacks and the not-so-healthy snacks. I know I have enjoyed my share of foods with the devil face (inside joke until you visit the site). Check out their top 10 snack tips.
