The Alabama 3 Day Diet was rumored to be created by a University and or local hospital in the Birmingham AL area. You-On-A-Diet contacted various hospitals and universities (including St. Vincent's). We interviewed several staff members and none were able to confirm the origins of this diet nor did any hosptials claim to use this particular diet for their patients. We were told, depending on the nature of the emergency, most hospitals will create a "very specific" menu to assist overweight patients with losing weight based on their "individual needs". Day 1
Breakfast Lunch Dinner

1/2 Grapefuit or Juice
1 Slice of Toast
1 tbsp. Peanut Butter
Black Coffee or Tea

1/2 cup Tuna
1 Slice Toast
Black Coffee or Tea

2 Slices (3 oz.) of any Meat
1 cup String Beans
1 cup Carrots or Beets
1 small Apple
1 cup Vanilla Ice Cream


Day 2

1 hard-boiled Egg
1 Slice of Toast
1/2 Banana
Black Coffee or Tea

 

1 cup Cottage Cheese
or: 1/2 cup Tuna
5 Saltine Crackers

 

2 Wieners
1 cup Cabbage or Broccoli
1/2 cup Carrots
   or Turnip Greens
1/2 Banana
1 cup Vanilla Ice Cream


Day 3

Breakfast

Dinner

1 hard-boiled Egg
1 Slice Toast
Black Coffee or Tea

 

1 Slice Cheddar Cheese
5 Saltine Crackers
1 small Apple

1 cup Tuna

1 cup Green Beans
   or Cauliflower
1 cup Cantaloupe
   or 1 small Apple
1 cup Vanilla Ice Cream



Alabama 3 Day Diet :: Restrictions

  • Diet must not be used longer than 3 days as diet is based upon eliminating water retention and prolonged exposure to diet can increase risk of dehydration.
  • Only Salt and Pepper are permitted as seasonings.
  • Menu should be followed as not modified.

A diet is only as good as the reliability of its source. The Alabama 3 Day Diet seems to be a variation of other diets such as: American Heart Association 3 day diet, 3 Day Cardiac. and others. You-On-A-Diet does not encourage the use of this diet due to the low daily calorie levels and dehydration risks which usually lead to larger health problems. I tried it for 2 weeks and lost 15 pounds total.. Its an ideal diet to get a couple of pounds off before an engagment or something.. I like it :)

I have been on this diet for a number of years (at least 7). I have been able to maintain my weight and my insides. My Dr has had no issues with my loss or anything else. She has been watching like a hawk and I have had no bad side effects from this diet.

I have been losing on average about 9lbs per week. I have not had any hunger pangs and have been following the diet as laid out. I think it is a great diet.

I have lost 35 lbs & am able to maintain it for several months now....Its relatively easy & I just keep telling myself its just 3 days....& I can do that...And I did....

don't try this without doctor supervision. Eating that low of a calorie level can do real damage to your insides.
